As part of the Jubilee Year of Hope celebrations, Year 6 embarked on a special pilgrimage to St Barnabas Cathedral in Nottingham. The day began with a visit to the Mary Potter Heritage Centre, where pupils learned about the inspiring life of Blessed Mary Potter, a nun who dedicated her life to caring for the sick and the poor. She founded the Little Company of Mary in Nottingham, and her legacy of compassion and faith continues to inspire many today. After exploring the museum, the children were given a guided tour of the beautiful cathedral, discovering its rich history and sacred spaces. The pilgrimage concluded with the privilege of attending Mass, where pupils joined in prayer and reflection, deepening their understanding of faith and the importance of hope in their own lives.
Last week, Year 5 and 6 wowed everyone with their brilliant performance of The Lion King musical. Their singing was powerful, the dancing was full of energy, and every student showed incredible confidence on stage. It was clear they had worked so hard learning their lines and developing their acting skills. The whole production was a joy to watch – a true celebration of their talent and teamwork!
During this week’s Open Afternoon, Year 3 were able to share with their parents what they do during PE with Gordon. They worked on various skills including balance and core strength. It was lovely to share with our parents what their children do in these lessons.
Year 6 enjoyed a visit to the Nottingham Broadway Cinema this week to watch The Lion King movie. They were inspired for their own performance and have brought back lots of ideas!
Year 1 had a lovely afternoon on Wednesday as we invited our parents, carers and family members into class. We enjoyed planting sunflower seeds together and painted observational drawings of beautiful flowers. This all linked into our science topic on growing.
The children and adults had a great time working together. We could see where our children’s artistic talents came from as all of the adults created beautiful pieces of artwork.
Thank you so much to everyone who came and got involved!
Year 6 have been very lucky to have a coach from Trent Bridge come and teach them cricket! They’ve learnt key skills in batting, bowling and fielding, alongside good communication and effective teamwork. Some of them are naturals!
Year 3 and 4 had the opportunity to celebrate Mass at Corpus Christ. It was so special, with all the children praying and singing with such joy. Mr Penna played the guitar so we could sing ‘Burning in my Soul’ with actions. What a joyous occasion.
Recently, we had the Theatre company RISE visit us and made us think more deeply about our role as Stewards of God’s Gifts.
We had a packed day of singing, dancing, and interactive drama, As well as all this, we created our own Rainforest birds and wrote a Class Psalm. What a busy fun day!
Year 5 showed great Scientific investigation skills in our observation of soluble materials. We mixed a variety of materials into water to see if it was soluble or insoluble. I was impressed at their use of scientific language and accurate measurements.
Method:
1. Measure 100ml of water into each of your beakers.
2. Add a spoonful of your material into the water and decide whether it’s soluble or insoluble.
Year 4 became planet heroes as RISE Theater led a day of dramatic workshops to enable our pupils to be part of their wonderful performance! In class, we took part in sessions exploring the effects of pollution on our towns and oceans, as well as the effects of global warming. See below for some highlights!
