Modern Foreign Languages (French)

At BRW, KS2 pupils learn French through a cohesive, consistent, progressive approach. Children receive either weekly or fortnightly lessons for a minimum of 30 minutes. Our intent is to ensure a broad MfL curriculum for all KS2 pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and cultural capital they will need to succeed at secondary school and in life.

Our MfL curriculum, including all coverage, progression, knowledge and skills, derives from the KS2 National Curriculum Programme of Study 2014.

The MFL curriculum is planned and sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before.

INTENT

  • Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources.
  • Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including thorough discussion and asking questions, continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
  • Can write a varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt.
  • Discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
