Forest School at BRW
Come and see the wonders of God.
Psalm 66.5
At Blessed Robert Widmerpool we are passionate about outdoor learning and the opportunities that it provides our children. Forest School has been a valuable part of our curriculum for many years and all children are given the opportunity to visit Glapton Woods as part of this curriculum.
Forest School is a unique, child centred approach in which children gain hands on experiences in a natural setting. The children have the opportunity to explore, take risks, observe, imagine and play in a woodland environment. This allows children to develop independence, boost confidence and self-esteem and also learn more about the natural environment.
Through Forest School, pupils learn how to work together to solve problems and challenges. They become resilient, independent and motivated as they develop and share their ideas and skills.
Challenges may include:
Den building
Forest art
Knot skills
Woodland craft
Building homes for creatures
Story telling
Wand making
Whittling and carving
Storytelling
Using tools
Sculpture with natural materials
