As part of our ‘Beginnings’ topic in RE, we have learned about the very first story in the Bible: the story of Creation!

Watch our video to see Year Two’s wonderful performance of this story…

The Creation Story

Year 1 had a wonderful visit to Nottingham Castle last week. We went to see an exhibition in the art gallery called Kaleidoscopic Realms. Year 1 are learning about colour in our art lessons and the exhibition was all about the use of colour in contemporary pieces of art.

The children enjoyed looking at the beautiful creations and were able to talk about what they liked about each piece. One piece of art was all about looking after planet Earth. This piece inspired the children to think about God’s gift of the world and how we should look after it. They created their own designs with this in mind.

Whilst at the castle, we visited the adventure playground to burn off some energy, visited Robin Hood’s Adventure and had a look around the beautiful gardens.

What a fabulous day!

The Foundation children were on a mission today to spot the squirrels in the woods! Unfortunately we only saw a few scampering across the grass and up the trees. But, the children absolutely loved searching for acorns for the squirrels to eat and learning some fun facts! Did you know that a squirrel is double jointed – its feet can turn forwards and backwards!

Last week, Year 3 spent a Stone Age day at Brackenhurst Education Centre. They had a fantastic time doing a whole range of activities. In the morning, we walked out to the woods and sat around the camp discussing the different eras. Then we used tools to saw and drill wooden medallions, painted walls like Early Man did and also built animal enclosures to keep our animals in.

After a well-earned lunch, we decorated out medallions, made clay pots and oh yes….recreated Stonehenge! Have a look…

The Rainbow Fish enjoyed exploring the counting collections resources. They worked well together, negotiating which box and strategy to use to find out how many objects they had. They used lots of different counting strategies and recordings to show how many they had.

The Foundation children and their friends loved exploring the woods today! We rambled through the bushes that were ‘as big as the sky,’ to get to the woods where we worked together to find all kinds of sticks and leaves. We used a spotter sheet to talk about the similarities and differences. We even found lots of other exciting things in the woods; a den, some acorns and a even a big tyre! We can’t wait to go back next week.

Over the last few weeks we have been learning how to take care of our wonderful world. Today we went up to Glapton Woods and used the litter pickers to pick up lots of rubbish – we had 6 big bags! We learned its important to pick it up ‘so animals don’t eat it and get poorly,’ and ‘so we don’t hurt ourselves if we fall over on it.’

Some of our children were chosen to lead the KS2 Liturgy this week, and they did an amazing job. They wrote some beautiful prayers and reflections, and with some help from Y6 and Ruth, led us all in a beautiful Liturgy.

Year 3 and Year 4 visited Wollaton Hall this week. We had a great workshop led by Raye, learning all about Animals and Habitats and getting a good close up view of some animals that have been preserved through taxidermy, that we wouldn’t normally get to see!

We then toured around the Hall, exploring all the galleries, particularly the Conservation and Biodiversity gallery,  We also enjoyed the Changing Planet and Rocks and Fossils gallery. An added bonus, was getting to see Dr Willard Wigan MBE’s Miniature Masterpieces exhibition featuring Disappearing World. It showcases miniature sculptures in the eye of a needle! We had to look through microscopes to see them, incredible!

What a great day out!
