This week the Foundation Stage children have been so busy at Forest school, collecting natural resources, noticing patterns on trees and they even had time to help Percy the Park Keeper build new homes for his woodland friends. They worked really well in their groups – thinking about what the animals need and how they would create a new home for them. We even had time for a quick break of hot chocolate, marshmallows and even a biscuit before they got back to work! What a great morning they had in the Autumn sunshine.
This week the Rainbow Fish loved using the Counting Collections during our Math’s session. They thought carefully about how to count the objects they had, using lots of different strategies to help them – some pairs even decided to change the strategy they used because it didn’t work! Their recording of the number of objects they had really amazed me! We had dots, lines, pictures, numerals and so much more! What a great bunch of Mathematicians the Rainbow Fish are!
Year Two had a wonderful visit to Nottingham Castle this term.
This visit was particularly relevant to our topic because it allowed the children to build their knowledge of ‘colour’ in a real-life exhibition.
The Kaleidoscopic Exhibition provided the opportunity for Year Two to marvel at, and be inspired by, the vibrant artwork in the gallery.
We also had the chance to explore the castle further. We enjoyed learning more about our local hero: Robin Hood. We also took the time to consider Nottingham’s human and physical features, by taking in views from across the city.
Our Year Two pupils were enthusiastic and eager to learn throughout the visit and they asked the gallery staff lots of questions.
We even had a few children fall asleep on the coach home. What an exciting day!
As part of our ‘Beginnings’ topic in RE, we have learned about the very first story in the Bible: the story of Creation!
Watch our video to see Year Two’s wonderful performance of this story…
Year 1 had a wonderful visit to Nottingham Castle last week. We went to see an exhibition in the art gallery called Kaleidoscopic Realms. Year 1 are learning about colour in our art lessons and the exhibition was all about the use of colour in contemporary pieces of art.
The children enjoyed looking at the beautiful creations and were able to talk about what they liked about each piece. One piece of art was all about looking after planet Earth. This piece inspired the children to think about God’s gift of the world and how we should look after it. They created their own designs with this in mind.
Whilst at the castle, we visited the adventure playground to burn off some energy, visited Robin Hood’s Adventure and had a look around the beautiful gardens.
What a fabulous day!
The Foundation children were on a mission today to spot the squirrels in the woods! Unfortunately we only saw a few scampering across the grass and up the trees. But, the children absolutely loved searching for acorns for the squirrels to eat and learning some fun facts! Did you know that a squirrel is double jointed – its feet can turn forwards and backwards!
Here are the songs you’re going to need to learn for our assembly this term….
Louis Armstrong – What a Wonderful World
Henry VIII Wives Song
Last week, Year 3 spent a Stone Age day at Brackenhurst Education Centre. They had a fantastic time doing a whole range of activities. In the morning, we walked out to the woods and sat around the camp discussing the different eras. Then we used tools to saw and drill wooden medallions, painted walls like Early Man did and also built animal enclosures to keep our animals in.
After a well-earned lunch, we decorated out medallions, made clay pots and oh yes….recreated Stonehenge! Have a look…
The Rainbow Fish enjoyed exploring the counting collections resources. They worked well together, negotiating which box and strategy to use to find out how many objects they had. They used lots of different counting strategies and recordings to show how many they had.
The Foundation children and their friends loved exploring the woods today! We rambled through the bushes that were ‘as big as the sky,’ to get to the woods where we worked together to find all kinds of sticks and leaves. We used a spotter sheet to talk about the similarities and differences. We even found lots of other exciting things in the woods; a den, some acorns and a even a big tyre! We can’t wait to go back next week.
