Year 4 have had a fantastic start to summer term. We’ve been learning all about the Romans in History and year 4 have been finding out about how the Romans invaded and ultimately defeated Boudica! Their pictures of Boudica were expertly drawn and labelled from a few meagre descriptions, but they were all under the impression that she was a fearful woman of great power!
We’ve also been investigating plants and growing conditions in year 4, and have our own experiments running in the classroom – some of our plants are thriving and some of them are looking pretty sorry for themselves with no water or light. In a couple of week’s time we should have a better idea of what the ideal (and *not* ideal) conditions for growth are!
In English we’re reading The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Philip Pullman, and have been creating some super descriptive writing using fronted adverbials to describe the myriad of characters in the story. We’ve found out that it’s actually quite a funny book as well as telling a story of an epic adventure. We love some of the characters like the pirates who pretended they weren’t pirates and then messed up their plans anyway!
In Come and See, we have been looking into the Pentecost and the children have been reflecting on the relationships that came out of this incredible (and slightly scary) event. The children have created some beautiful artwork, either using their own style or the style of one of the more traditional, classical painters, to show the incredible events of the Pentecost.
We’re working hard on our times tables and doing daily ‘tests’ to build our strength and confidence in this and the children are doing brilliantly – keep up the practise at home!
Foundation Stage have had a wonderful morning at Forest School. They became ‘Wild Things,’ creating their own crowns and perfecting their wild roars!! Watch out for them next time your in the woods…
Year 2 have had a creative and active start to the summer term! The first two weeks have been full of activities to get the children’s artistic juices flowing.
In Art, children practiced their clay techniques they learned with Mrs Head, before taking inspiration from a still life set-up and creating sculptures linked to climate change and global warming. The children worked extremely hard and are all so proud of what they have achieved. The children really showed their understanding of why it is important to take action against climate change to protect our earth.
In Science, children learned to find and record their pulse before carrying out an investigation involving squats, running on the spot and burpees! Children learned about how exercise keeps us healthy and the best exercise to get their hearts pumping.
Last week, Year 2 choreographed a liturgical dance for their Come and See lesson. Children listened to Happy Day by Tim Hughes and discussed the meaning behind the lyrics about the return of Jesus Christ after he had been crucified. Children talked about how this was a time of celebration and linked their dance moves to the words of the final verse of the song.
As you may know, Year 2 are also working hard practicing for their SATs, taking place w/c 22nd May. The children are trying their very best and working extremely hard on their practice papers, as well as enjoying creative, inspiring and active lessons.
This year, the British Science Week theme was connections! To celebrate this, and to give our creative, imaginative and incredible children a challenge, we ran a Marble Run competition. True to form, they didn’t disappoint!
Everyone has really enjoyed all the photos and videos that have been emailed in. We have been wowed with all the amazing creations – not to mention your filming skills!
Thank you for all the stupendous entries. Our winner was Alexander, who managed the longest entry at well over 4 metres (so many twists and turns it could be double that!) Congratulations to all, you should feel very proud!
Year 5 have been busy finishing their learning about North America in Geography.
We explored time zones and begun to understand why these were needed. We learnt that because the Earth spins on it’s axis (24hours), some of the world would be dark and the other side would be light! Therefore, on the dark side it needs to be a time when people are sleeping and on the light side, it needs to be daytime. Year 5 have given some reasons for this and worked out different time zones around the world. Have a look!
Then we compared the American state of New York to Nottingham. We watched a video showing us the human and physical features of New York and created a Venn-diagram to see the similarities and differences between NYC and Nottingham.

The children have had a fantastic morning in the woods. They have been using natural objects to create dinosaurs inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. We had, a triceratops, a T-Rex, a diplodocus and even a pterodactyl!
Year 1 and 2 enjoyed a visit to Rushcliffe Country Park in the Spring Term. They had a wonderful day filled with adventure, exploring, lots of walking and some fun in the playground!
The children were given lots of challenges throughout the day. They looked for signs of spring, tried hard to find and identify sculptures, used their senses in the woodland area and climbed, jumped and balanced on the park.

Year 3 welcomed everyone back this week with a beautiful Liturgy. They retold the story of The Resurrection Story with drama, song and and prayerful reflection. It was joyful!
This week, Year 3 showcased their work in Dance. This dance was a samba-style dance to celebrate their Geography work on South America and all their learning linked with Paddington. They were ‘Fab-u-lous!’
Last term, Year 3 had the fantastic opportuntiy to play an instrument in a class orchestra. They made excellent progress and you can look forward to a live performance during our upcoming Music Evening on the 4th May!
