Year 3 spent some time exploring playscripts and their layout in order to identify key features. What better way to do that then to actually perform one?
Working in groups, they organised themselves into different roles and then used the stage directions to ensure actions and dialogue were accurate.
They were then able to use these features in their own plays, a ‘Revolting Rhymes’ style version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Some fantastic playscripts were produced because they worked so well together. Great work Year 3!
The children loved visiting the Greens Windmill on Friday. They were excellent when climbing up and down the steep stairs, growing in confidence with each step! They learned how flour is made and couldn’t wait to have a go on the grinder. They used their super ‘Hulk Smash,’ skills when kneading the dough to make bread roll shapes – they told us they couldn’t wait to try it when they get home! They also explored the science museum where they tested magnets, tested their strength and even found some funny looking mirrors. What a great morning Foundation Stage.
The children were amazing at the Windmill. They had so much energy and confidence climbing up and down four flights of steps! They learned about how the Miller turns the grain into flour for our bread. They kneaded the bread to make different-shaped bread rolls – we hope they shared these with their families! They also had chance to explore all the scientific and mathematical exhibits – look out for some funny photographs of the mirrors!
Year 6 visited Sherwood Pines last week for their class visit. In the morning, they conquered their fears by completing Go Ape activities. They showed resilience, bravery and courage as they walked through the towering trees, and even had a go on the zip-line! In the afternoon, they completed Gorilla Games, where they had to develop their communication skills and work together as a team to win games. They had so much fun and created some wonderful memories to cherish in their final year at BRW. Take a look at some of the photos….
Today the Rainbow Fish made delicious jam sandwiches. We used our fine motor skills to spread the butter and jam carefully. We used some ‘bossy’ words when talking about what we did to make them. But the best part … getting to eat them! Yum!
Year 6 performed a brilliant class assembly this morning, reflecting on everything they’ve learnt in the last 6 weeks! Their theme for this term is ‘Is Our World Always as it Seems?’, exploring how propaganda has been used throughout history and how it impacted people’s beliefs. Linking their learning, they’ve also learnt about the artist Marc Chagall, layering WW2 music and in Science, how electricity was used to make search lights. They really were TRIPLE THREATS today – singing, acting and dancing! They should be extremely proud of their incredible performance. Well done! 🙂
Year 3 are enjoying learning about Rocks! We have spent some time making close observational drawings of them and looking at different type of rock features. We have also started a good collection of our own in the classroom. Rock on Year 3!
This week the Foundation Stage children have been so busy at Forest school, collecting natural resources, noticing patterns on trees and they even had time to help Percy the Park Keeper build new homes for his woodland friends. They worked really well in their groups – thinking about what the animals need and how they would create a new home for them. We even had time for a quick break of hot chocolate, marshmallows and even a biscuit before they got back to work! What a great morning they had in the Autumn sunshine.
This week the Rainbow Fish loved using the Counting Collections during our Math’s session. They thought carefully about how to count the objects they had, using lots of different strategies to help them – some pairs even decided to change the strategy they used because it didn’t work! Their recording of the number of objects they had really amazed me! We had dots, lines, pictures, numerals and so much more! What a great bunch of Mathematicians the Rainbow Fish are!
Year Two had a wonderful visit to Nottingham Castle this term.
This visit was particularly relevant to our topic because it allowed the children to build their knowledge of ‘colour’ in a real-life exhibition.
The Kaleidoscopic Exhibition provided the opportunity for Year Two to marvel at, and be inspired by, the vibrant artwork in the gallery.
We also had the chance to explore the castle further. We enjoyed learning more about our local hero: Robin Hood. We also took the time to consider Nottingham’s human and physical features, by taking in views from across the city.
Our Year Two pupils were enthusiastic and eager to learn throughout the visit and they asked the gallery staff lots of questions.
We even had a few children fall asleep on the coach home. What an exciting day!
