Year 6 have been very lucky to have a coach from Trent Bridge come and teach them cricket! They’ve learnt key skills in batting, bowling and fielding, alongside good communication and effective teamwork. Some of them are naturals!

Year 3 and 4 had the opportunity to celebrate Mass at Corpus Christ. It was so special, with all the children praying and singing with such joy. Mr Penna played the guitar so we could sing ‘Burning in my Soul’ with actions. What a joyous occasion.

Recently, we had the Theatre company RISE visit us and made us think more deeply about our role as Stewards of God’s Gifts.

We had a packed day of singing, dancing, and interactive drama, As well as all this, we created our own Rainforest birds and wrote a Class Psalm. What a busy fun day!

Year 5 had a lovely walk to Clifton Village this week. We learnt all about out local history from Mr Bryan and were even lucky enough to walk around St Mary’s church. Year 5 really enjoyed learning about the Clifton family and their influence on the local area.

All week the FS2 children have been applying everything they have learned over the year into the counting collections sessions. They have worked brilliantly in pairs to ‘choose,’ pick a ‘strategy,’ ‘count,’ and then record,’ how many objects they have in a collections. We have seen some grouping, using tens frames, mats,  containers etc to find out how many they have. They have also been recording in so many different ways too! Fabulous work from the Rainbow Fish children all week!

As we didn’t manage to get to Forest School today we had a wonderful time creating maps to help us get to our church and then back to school. The children were amazing landmark spotters in our community noticing the two churches, shops, homes of friends and family and many more! We even time for a snack and story back at school before we hunted for ladybirds!.

Year 5 showed great Scientific investigation skills in our observation of soluble materials. We mixed a variety of materials into water to see if it was soluble or insoluble. I was impressed at their use of scientific language and accurate measurements.

Method:

1. Measure 100ml of water into each of your beakers.

2. Add a spoonful of your material into the water and decide whether it’s soluble or insoluble.

Year 4 became planet heroes as RISE Theater led a day of dramatic workshops to enable our pupils to be part of their wonderful performance! In class, we took part in sessions exploring the effects of pollution on our towns and oceans, as well as the effects of global warming. See below for some highlights!

In Year 6, we’ve had a very busy and exciting term! From our National Assessments, learning about the Ancient Mayans, and to preparing for our musical ‘The Lion King’.

Take a look at some of the wonderful learning we’ve done this half term…

History

We’ve been learning all about the Ancient Maya: how they became to be so successful, whether or not they were bloodthirsty or civilized and what could have possibly happened to them.

Geography

In Geography, we’ve been looking at North America by studying the countries in the continent and the states within the USA.

RE

In RE, we’ve been learning about witnessing the Good News and how we have a responsibility to care for others in our topic, Healing.

Art

In art, we’ve been learning about William Morris and his wonderful wallpaper designs.

This half term we have been exploring our local habitats, looking at food chains and discovering what mini-beasts live in the year 2 garden. This science topic allowed the children to explore nature and understand that even a damp rotten log can be a home for lots of little creatures. The children have created lovely dioramas showing a chosen large habitat and produced some amazing bug hotels out of recycled materials. Well done year 2 for becoming one with nature as we explored this very interesting topic!
