Year 2 have had an exciting start to their final half term of this year. This week, they have started their swimming lessons and all children enjoyed their first lesson at the leisure centre. Parents, please provide written permission for your child to wear goggles for swimming, if they require them; permission can be emailed too.
To kickstart our topic of India, children have located India in the continent of Asia and labelled the main cities of India on a map. Children used their geographical skills to identify mountains and jungles and are very excited to be visiting India within our future geography lessons.
In History, children time travelled to the seaside in Victorian times. They questioned, compared and found similarities between seaside holidays 100 years ago and now. We made some shocking discoveries when the majority of the class thought ‘ipod’ was a typo in our spot the mistake activity! Children then transformed themselves into Victorian children, to write descriptive postcards to family members about their trip to the beach.
In D.T, children became chefs as they chopped, peeled and sliced vegetables before tasting them in preparation for their new project to cook a healthy curry. Children wrote down their likes and dislikes, (mostly dislikes!), but all was well when the day was ended with some cake from Mrs Cross!
The first half of the summer term is over already! We have enjoyed so much already: a Resurrection Liturgy, a Music Evening, Sports Days, Ascension Mass and our First Holy Communion Liturgy!
What’s more, our Year 2s and Year 6s have worked extremely hard preparing for and sitting their National Assessments!
Thank to the hard work of our pupils, staff and parent support in keeping our BRW Spirit Strong this half-term! We’re excited for the next half-term of the summer!
It had been a long and tough half term for Year 2, preparing and completing their SATs papers. The children have worked extremely hard and tried their very best with their papers – they have all improved and shown how much they have learned this term.
We had our KS1 disco this week where the children showed off their amazing dance moves and had a lot of well earned fun!
I am sure the children are looking forward to having a week off and enjoying the sun safely. When they return, we will have a busy Summer 2 with Swimming on Tuesday afternoons (see homework for more info) and lots of exciting topic work!
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their Key Stage 1 Sports Day on Wednesday! The children battled it out during all of the team games and showed their talents for dribbling, javelin throwing, jumping and balancing. They also ran for their lives during the team races and obstacle course. Team Mark were the triumphant winners this year.
Thank you to all of the parents, friends and family members who came along to watch and cheer everyone on – it really was a fabulous afternoon.
The Yellow-Spotted Lizard!
This week, we are writing a non-chronological report about a fictional lizard in the book ‘Holes’. Your task tonight is to research lizards and then create some trustworthy facts about the ‘Yellow-Spotted Lizard’, that you can use in your writing this week.
Your sentences should include examples of parenthesis.
You might also want to watch this video to gain some more knowledge about reptiles!

A minimum of five sentences is expected for your homework requirement.
I can’t wait to hear your incredible facts!
Year 3 are learning all about the Roman Invasion of Britain and its impact upon us. Did you know that Julius Caesar tried twice but the awful weather and the scary Celts frightened him away! It wasn’t until almost 100 years later that Emperor Claudius was successful in AD 43.
Ask a Year 3 to tell you why they came. We’ve been using plasticine to help embed our learning…
FS had a great time at Forest School this week. They collected natural objects to create their very own Wild Thing, using clay. They also acted out the story in the woods. We heard lots of ‘terrible roars,’ and saw their ‘terrible teeth in their terrible jaws!’ Watch out for wandering Wild Things next time you’re at the woods…..
Year 5 showcased their fantastic musical abilities this term by performing their class orchestra at the BRW Musical Evening! They worked incredibly hard learning to read music and to play their instruments to ‘Pirates of Nottingham’. All of their hardwork and dedication paid off, as their performance was a triumph. What musical talent we have at BRW. Well done Year 5!
Year 1 have been learning how to write letters after reading the story The Day The Crayons Quit. We thought that we would put our new skills to good use by writing letters to King Charles, wishing him well on his coronation day.
The Year 1 children took lots of persuading before they believed that their letters would actually be sent to King Charles! Once they were convinced, they insisted that they should use very sharp pencils, neat handwriting, careful sounding out and capital letters and full stops. They really wanted to impress the King.
I can confirm that the letters were taken to the Post Office on Friday and are now heading to Buckingham Palace. We are hoping that a reply will be delivered to BRW later this term. Watch this space…

We have had a very exciting day in FS celebrating King Charles’ Coronation. We’ve made crowns, decorated party plates, listened to stories, ate some delicious party food and even had a boogie in the sunshine! As they children said, “It’s the best day EVER!”
