As part of our efforts to raise money for CAFOD during the season of Lent, FS and Year 3 were very excited to kickstart this important event. FS completed their 5 laps with the support of their Y3 partners, who were more than happy to be paired up with the youngest members of our school. Year 3 went on to complete their 15 laps n good time and barely out of breath!

This week at forest school we spent our time getting to know the trees. We looked at them and copied the shapes and movements they make in different weathers and seasons. We also enjoyed using our senses to find out the trees – giving them a hug, using our hands to find out what they feel like, smelling them ( they smell like mint, chocolate and mud!), and using our ears to find out the different sounds they make. We even came up with different names for our trees! Look out for Rose-ish Tree, Minty Tree, Mr Bumpy Tree and Chocolate Cucumber Tree the next time you’re at Glapton woods!…..

Wednesday afternoon was a very busy day at BRW. There was an unprecedented number of poorly teddies (and rabbits, dragons and pigs) arriving at school – something had to be done!

We called in the doctors (real ones!) and, thankfully, they were able to make them all better. Whilst treating the teddies, the children learned about dental hygiene, how to try to make themselves feel better when they were sad, what exercise does to the body and how to use a stethoscope.

We were very proud of how all the children behaved and how they spoke clearly to people they did not know.

Here are a few photographs to give you a flavour of the experience.

We had a lovely time exploring Glapton Woods this week. We wanted to help the Boy and Penguin from our story find there way back to the South Pole so we created maps for them to follow.  The children loved drawing and writing what they could see as we walked through the woods.

We had a chilly morning in the woods on Tuesday,  exploring the woods using a map to find our way around, working with a partner to talk about what we noticed and then playing games of hide and seek and climbing the trees. We also enjoyed warming ourselves up with a hot chocolate, a marshmallow and a chocolate biscuit!

The children have been so busy this month – putting on their amazing Christmas performance of Whoops-a-Daisy Angel – I’m sure all their parents, family and friends were so proud of their confidence, singing, actions and clear voices – they were AMAZING!

That afternoon, we also enjoyed a visit to the Lakeside Theatre to watch A Boy who Cried Wolf – the children were very well behaved and quite mesmerised by the actors and the ‘snow’ spinning around the auditorium.

Back in school, they had a visit from Stanley the dog – as you can see from the photographs, he is very popular and very loved!

Other Christmas activities included making baubles, wearing Christmas jumpers and, of course, the Christmas party, with a special person in red making an appearance and bringing toys to play with in the new year.

All the Foundation Stage Team wish all our children and their families, a very Happy Christmas.

Printable You Are Called Prayer Cards Colour

Foundation Stage One did all of the above and practised their calm breathing.

‘Year 1 got involved in World Youth Day by dancing and singing about how Jesus Loves us, thinking about the different jobs and roles young people can play in the life of the church. We also had some reflection time to think about how important it is that we attend church and actively engage in our church community. Finally we thought about how lucky we are and prayed for those young people in the world who do not have all of the things we do.’

Year 2

The children had a great time in the woods today. They worked together to create a home for a woodland creature. The thought carefully about what to use to make sure each home had a roof, a bed and something to eat! They also loved playing hide and seek and overcoming challenges in the woods, “I was scared to climb the tree- but I tried three times and now I can do it!”

The Rainbow Fish children have loved exploring and using the new Counting Collections resources. They have been working together to use the collection to count different objects and then record how many they have using pictures, lines, dots and even numerals! Some excellent counting and problem solving skills in class this week!

The Foundation children had a lovely time at Glapton Woods. They worked in groups to collect different sticks and twigs and talked about the similarities and differences they noticed. They also had lots of fun, using their senses, to explore the world around the; climbing trees, creating ‘bonfires,’ and digging homes for the worms! They’re already looking forward to going again next week!
