This week at Forest School, our EYFS children embarked on a magical journey inspired by the beloved story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. With imaginations running wild, we brought the story to life through hands-on outdoor learning and creative play.
The children in FS have had a wonderful morning in our very own Forest School. They were managing risks, finding places to climb and using some wonderful imagination as they played.
They even carried on some Art learning – using wax crayons to do some nature rubbings. They used lovely language such as ‘bumpy,’ ‘rough,’ ‘smooth,’ and hard,’ to describe texture. What a fun morning they had!
Over the last two weeks, the Forest School children have been making maps to show the way from school to our base, picking up litter to protect the animals in the wood, climbing trees, playing hide and seek, finding sticks and having so much fun together – phew!
The children enjoyed a lovely icy treat on a hot sunny afternoon! A great big THANK YOU! They really enjoyed them!
The Foundation Children have really enjoyed using all the new outdoor musical equipment that has been bought with the money raised this year – they have been playing the instruments, singing and dancing! Keep your eyes peeled for future stars!
On Friday some of the Rainbow Fish wanted to put on a talent show for some of their friends! They were some amazing performances – from jokes, to dances and even some singing! They also had their very own judging panel!
All week the FS2 children have been applying everything they have learned over the year into the counting collections sessions. They have worked brilliantly in pairs to ‘choose,’ pick a ‘strategy,’ ‘count,’ and then record,’ how many objects they have in a collections. We have seen some grouping, using tens frames, mats, containers etc to find out how many they have. They have also been recording in so many different ways too! Fabulous work from the Rainbow Fish children all week!
As we didn’t manage to get to Forest School today we had a wonderful time creating maps to help us get to our church and then back to school. The children were amazing landmark spotters in our community noticing the two churches, shops, homes of friends and family and many more! We even time for a snack and story back at school before we hunted for ladybirds!.
The children have had the most amazing day in FS learning about dinosaurs! They were amazed that a dinosaur got into our outdoor classroom! They created play dough dinosaurs, investigated ice eggs and footprints and did some truly wonderful artwork!
As we couldn’t get up to Forest School today, we still decided to go out and be ‘Stewards of the Earth,’ and do some litter picking in our local community and school grounds. We had a great morning, working together using the litter pickers, being litter spotters and even jumping in a few muddy puddles! The children were so good we even had time for a snack and story in our Jubilee Garden!
What fantastic ‘Stewards,’ they are!
