“I’ve been a Governor at Blessed Robert since May 2017.  I came to Nottingham to study at University and loved the city so much I stayed, and have now been here for 30 years.  My children have attended Blessed Robert and subsequently the Becket school.

The school’s Mission Statement “We walk kindly in the footsteps of Jesus Christ as we live and learn.” is evidenced every day at the school which is a wonderful and nurturing place for the children.  As a foundation governor our role is to ensure that the catholic character of the school is preserved and developed, and to maintain the relationship between school, parents and the parish.  The Governing Body works closely with the school to ensure that the best outcomes are achieved.”

I have been a foundation governor since September 2014 and recently became the chair of the Strategic Development Committee, which deals with reviewing and monitoring the school improvement plan; agreeing targets and generally having an overview of the curriculum. I also sit on the Pupils and Personnel committee and this involves staffing and pupil issues.

I am a Physiotherapist and currently work at the University of Nottingham in the Division of Physiotherapy and have been involved in tertiary education since 1999. I also work part-time in a local private physiotherapy clinic.

Father Chris approached me about becoming a foundation governor and I jumped at the chance to be involved in supporting the school. At the time I had three children at BRW, one has now moved onto the Becket School, and I have children in years 1 and 5. Although we don’t live in the parish we attend Corpus Christi as we feel this is our community. Our family arrived to the school in 2012, we were made welcome from day 1 and I have been nothing but impressed with the school its standards and the way it looks after the educational, spiritual and emotional needs of the children. I wanted to be a governor to give something back and support the school and staff.

My hopes for the school are that it stays outstanding in every aspect and continues to develop children who are confident and well rounded.

My role as a Foundation Governor is to support the school in ensuring that all children are valued, nurtured and given a quality education in order to reach their full potential.  I am an experienced teacher working at Rushcliffe School in West Bridgford where every day is spent meeting the social, moral, spiritual, cultural and academic needs of my students. My work has given me valuable insight, which I bring to my role at this school.

During my first visit to BRW, it became clear to me that children were the primary focus of this school and as a result, being a governor here felt like the perfect fit. Throughout my time as governor at The Becket School, I was committed to putting the pupils at the heart of every decision.  At BRW I can continue in this regard.

My two daughters attended St Edmund Campion and then the Becket.  Both girls have received an excellent education.  This and my conviction that quality education is the key to living well is why I value being a governor at BRW.
