Collective Worship
Prayer and worship are at the heart of daily life at Blessed Robert Widmerpool. As a Catholic community, we provide regular opportunities for children to grow in faith and develop spiritually through a variety of forms of prayer and worship.
Throughout the week, pupils gather together to take part in liturgical prayer and Celebration of the Word. These moments bring our school community together, helping children to reflect, give thanks and grow in their relationship with God.
Each week pupils participate in:
- Whole School Celebration of the Word
- Key Stage 1 Celebration of the Word, led by the Liturgy Team
- Key Stage 2 Celebration of the Word, led by the Liturgy Team
- Celebration Assembly
- Classroom-based Celebration of the Word, often planned and led by the children
Children play an active role in planning, leading and evaluating prayer and liturgy both as a class and in small groups. They use a simple structure to guide their prayer: Gather – Word – Respond – Go Forth, helping them to understand and take ownership of worship.
Across the year, we celebrate important moments in the Church’s liturgical calendar. These include whole school Masses (both in school and at our parish church), Nativity celebrations, Lenten liturgies, Reconciliation services, and feast day celebrations.
Collective Worship is carefully planned, resourced, recorded, monitored and evaluated to ensure it is meaningful and inclusive for all. Through these experiences, we nurture the spiritual, moral and religious development of every member of our school community.
