Year 3 Have been learning all about Food Chains. They were very lucky this week, to have some of our parents in the classroom for Open Afternoon, as they were able to join in with our learning. Their homework this week, is to find some food chains in their garden or at a nearby park…I wonder what they will find?
Year 3 were sporting superstars on our KS2 Sports Day. Future Olympians in the making!
Year 3 spent the day totally immersed in numbers on National Numeracy Day. We started the day with a very interesting guest speaker – a paralegal from Capital One, who told us all about her Maths journey. The children came up with some great questions. Then Year 3 learnt all about money and banking. We spent some time examining a bank statement to understand what it all meant. We then discovered that dancers also use number – and we learned a great dance routine with ‘Strictly’ dancer Katya (which got faster and faster!)
We had a quick revisit of French numbers in the afternoon, and some of us got to go to the Big Number Natter Cafe. We got to enjoy dressing up as people who work with numbers or number-related outfits. What a fantastic day we had.
It was wonderful this morning to celebrate Mass in our church with Father David, parents, carers and parishioners. The children who took part with readings, prayers and poetry were confident, thoughtful and precise and, as for the singing, it was glorious, powerful and brought joy to our hearts.
Year 3 were given a challenge by Willy Wonka this week! As part of their ”Changing States’ topic they were asked to find the quickest way to melt chocolate for his chocolate river.
In their groups, our busy scientists quickly got to work finding different ways to melt chocolate and timing how long it took. They recorded their results and their experiments using iPads and learned how to create a PicCollage to present their findings. A fantastic investigation and we resisted the temptation to eat the chocolate…at least not the squares used, shh!
Year 3 began our Summer Term with a whole school Resurrection Liturgy this week. We gathered together to reflect on the events following the Crucifixion. The children led us in prayer and joyful song, re-enacting the Gospel of St. John when Mary Magdalene and the disciples discovered the empty tomb of Jesus. Mary spoke to angels, and then with Jesus who told her to let others know. Year 3 helped spread the Good News with reverence and true joy!
As we approach Holy Week, Year 3 begin their preparations for their Easter Liturgy. Here are three songs that we plan to song, for you to practise at home.

Year 3 were joined by Year 4 today, to welcome some very special visitors…the ducklings. Earlier in the week, when they were newly hatched we did some observational sketches. Today, we loved watching them have a swim, but not as much as the ducklings enjoyed the water, and very cheekily splashing anyone within reach! We really will miss them as they’ve now returned to the farm.
Year 3 have been working hard with Mrs Bathgate in Gymnastics. They have been learning how to link different tucks and rolls to link a variety of balances on different parts of their bodies…Such poise, have a look!
This week is the 30th Anniversary of British Science Week, so the theme this year is Time!
We got off to a super start this morning with our Science Ambassadors leading a whole school assembly. We began with learnig a little about our Science saint – At. Albert the Great, and read a prayer that last year’s ambassadors wrote. They shared the theme and lots of links to our own lifes and science that we can make with science. They launched the Poster competition and ran the lunch-time ‘Gadget Shop’ which will run Mon-Thursday this week, until all stock is sold. Prices range from 50p to £2. Itemised lists with prices are posted around the school.
Phew, and it’s only Day 1.
